Plantar Warts

Plantar warts are caused by a viral infection affecting the skin on the sole of the foot.

Symptoms

• Rough, thickened lesions
• Pain when walking or standing
• Small black dots within the lesion

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is based on clinical examination of the lesion.

Causes & Risk Factors

• Viral infection (HPV)
• Walking barefoot in communal areas (pools, gyms)
• Weakened immune system
• Cuts or breaks in the skin
• Excessive sweating

Treatment

Treatment may include debridement, topical treatments, and clinical management depending on severity.
