Calluses and corns are thickened areas of skin that develop due to repeated pressure or friction, often caused by footwear or abnormal foot mechanics.

Symptoms

  • Thick, hardened skin
  • Localised pain with pressure
  • Discomfort when walking or wearing shoes

Diagnosis

We assess skin lesions, pressure distribution, foot structure, and gait to identify the underlying cause.

Causes & Risk Factors

  • Repeated pressure or friction
  • Ill-fitting footwear
  • Prominent bones or deformities
  • Abnormal gait or foot mechanics
  • High activity levels
  • Standing for long periods

Treatment

Treatment may include safe debridement (removal), pressure offloading, padding, footwear advice, addressing contributing mechanical factors, and custom orthotics.
